Jessica Kirby

Sometimes we feel as if something is holding us back from achieving our goals in life. This may be due to the presence of anxiety, fears, habits, relationships, personal identity issues, or the experience of grief and loss.

With the help of Equine Assisted Counseling, Animal Assisted Therapy, Play and Expressive Arts Therapy and “out of the box” strategies, I strive to collaborate with clients to aid in self-actualization and personal empowerment, which in turn serves to help clients overcome obstacles and to create and reach personal and professional goals.
I feel that counseling should be a transformative, fulfilling process that results in a greater understanding one’s self and how they relate to the world around them.

My Experience:

In 2006, I founded Healing Manners Dog and Horse Training, which provided behavior modification services for animals. Throughout my work, I discovered that people were often in need of healing just as much as their animals, and that animals can be powerful assisters in the healing process.
In 2011, I went back to school with the desire to provide holistic counseling services for children, teens, and adults. My Bachelor degree is in Psychology with two minors in Creative Writing and Sculpture.

I received my Therapeutic Riding Instructor certification through PATH International and began instructing therapeutic riding lessons for individuals with disabilities or mental health concerns at Butterfly Dreams Farm in Watkinsville, GA; a non-profit organization serving the community for over 12 years. I am also on the board of Butterfly Dreams Farm and continue to operate Healing Manners, specializing in healing fear and aggression in animals.

As I complete my final semester in graduate school at Goddard College, I have discovered the great need for healing through art, music, self-expression, human-animal interactions, spirituality, and the development of deep and authentic relationships. I have also discovered a calling to work with children and teens as they grow and begin to navigate life.

What to Expect from Me:

I look forward to exploring various therapeutic modalities with my clients to discover what truly serves them best in the therapeutic process. I am open minded and believe that everyone can reach their full potential with the help of the correct “tools”, despite whichever obstacles they may be experiencing.
